Dodgers vs. Rockies Prediction: Best Bets for Tuesday’s MLB Game
The Los Angeles Dodgers (75-51) and Colorado Rockies (50-75) square off at Coors Field in Denver at 8:40 p.m. ET in the final game of Tuesday’s MLB slate.
Los Angeles administered an 11-5 pounding of Colorado in the series opener Monday night, collecting 14 hits, including a 4 for 5 night from superstar DH Shohei Ohtani. He finished with a pair of homers, four runs scored and three RBI, as the Dodgers finally looked like themselves. Granted, it was the lowly Rockies, but still, THIS is how the high-octane Los Angeles team should look.
Three players collected at least three hits, and there were four players collecting at least two RBI in the rout. Now, the Dodgers look to keep it rolling in the middle contest of the three-game set.
Los Angeles turns to LHP Eric Lauer (7-6, 4.67 ERA, 1.24 WHIP), and his overall numbers don’t paint the picture of how good he has been lately. Since the Dodgers plucked him off the DFA scrap heap from the Toronto Blue Jays, the southpaw has been scintillating, posting a 6-1 record, 3.48 ERA and 1.10 WHIP, posting a 0.8 WAR, as opposed to -0.5 WAR in his forgettable 1-5 starts with a 6.69 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in six starts and eight appearances across 36 ⅓ IP in T-Dot.
The Rockies have struggled against most everywhere, but especially against left-handed starting pitching. Colorado is just 14-23 vs. LHP this season, while going 15-28 inside the division.
Colorado turns to RHP Ryan Feltner (5-6, 5.59 ERA, 1.49 WHIP), and he has actually been somewhat effective lately. At home, though, while going 4-2, he has a 5.62 ERA, while serving up 10 homers in the rarefied air at Coors Field. Teams are hitting just .251 against him at Coors, as opposed to .307 on the road, but it’s a good bet Ohtani and company are going to get after him quite quickly.
In fact, our best bet is something we haven’t really been doing a lot lately. Let’s not only back DODGERS (-175) - FIRST FIVE INNINGS on the moneyline, but if you’re a bit more adventurous, consider DODGERS -1.5 (+124) - RUN LINE FIRST FIVE INNINGS. At plus-money, that’s an attractive possibility if you are a little less conventional.
In addition, let’s look for another big night from the Dodgers’ offense, and maybe the Rockies can chip in a little with this prop, too. Let’s go OVER 7.5 (-115) - TOTAL EXTRA BASE HITS, and try something a little different on this MLB Tuesday.
